Paws Crossed To Begin 'Reading To Rover' Program

ELMSFORD, NY — Paws Crossed Animal Rescue has initiated a new program in which children read to trained and certified therapy dogs. For “Reading to Rover,” all dogs have gone through the READ (Reading Education Assistance Dog) Program, which improves children’s reading and communications skills by employing a powerful learning method in a comfortable, non-judgmental setting.

“We are really excited to be launching this program in January 2018,” said Jennifer Angelucci, president and CEO of Paws Cross Animal Rescue.

“Reading to Rover is not only fun for the children, but it also builds confidence, enthusiasm and increases reading abilities,” she said.

The READ dog involved in the Paws Crossed program is Chickpea, a rescue dog adopted from the Elmsford facility by one of its volunteers.
