Baseball
After having won 23 consecutive baseball games, the Cortland Red Dragons saw their streak come to an end at the hands of Wheaton College of Massachusetts, on May 27 in Appleton, Wisconsin.

After being rained out on the previous day, the nines played a tight ball game, with the score 1-1, and the Lyons batting in the top of the 9th inning. Before the dust had cleared, 5 runs had crossed the plate, after which the Cortland team failed to score, with the result being that the team from the Bay State had become the Division III National Baseball Champions.
In the game, designated hitter Andrew Pezzuto (Hastings '07) fanned twice. Facing St. Thomas of Minn. on the 29th, the Red Dragons lost the finale, 7-6. Andrew, playing in left field, had a big game, as he went 2-4 at bat, scored 2 runs, had 1 r.b.i , walked once, and had 3 putouts in the game. The team's final overall record was 41-9-1.
Brother Greg
On May 28, brother Greg Pezzuto and the Southern New Hampshire baseball team, battling West Chester in a Division II, second round game at Cary, N.C. , after holding a 4-1 lead after six innings, saw it evaporate later, as Golden Rams scored a total of 11 runs in the last three frames, to win, 13-7.
Left fielder Pezzuto had 2 hits in the game. In a return matchup on the 30th with Minn. State-Mankato, a team they had topped, 3-2, on the 26th, the season come to an end, as the Golden Gophers blanked the Penmen, 6-0, with the Hastings alumnus fanning once in the finale. The team's final record was 43-15:19-10.
