Southern New Hampshire University left fielder Greg Pezzuto (Hastings '10) had 1 hit and struck out once as top-seeded SNHU earned its first-ever NCAA Division II East Region baseball championship with a 4-3 win over second-seeded Le Moyne College in Sunday afternoon's championship game at Penmen Field.
With the win, the Penmen improve to 42-13 and advance to the Division II College World Series in Cary, N.C. at the USA Baseball Training Complex.
SNHU will face Minnesota State-Mankato (48-10), the champions of the Central Region, in the first round of the eight-team double-elimination tournament on Saturday, May 26 at 5:00 p.m.

At Farmingdale State on the 16th, Andrew Pezzuto (Hastings '07) and the Red Dragons of Cortland, ranked 2nd nationally in the N.C.A.A., won a squeaker over Castleton State of Vermont, 7-6, in the first round of the tournament, as the designated hitter contributed to his team's victory, with an r.b.i. single in the 2nd inning, and then in the 4th, tripled and then scored in the game.
On the 19th, they topped hosts Farmingdale, 2-1, and thereby qualified for the 8 team Division III World Series, with their opener to be on the 25th against the host team, Kean State.

Crew
On the 11th, at the Dad Vail Regatta in Philadelphia, Vicki Tsammis (Dobbs Ferry '11) of Duke and her 2nd Varsity rowing crew, finished 4th in their race, behind Drexel, Bucknell, and St. Joseph's with a clocking of 7:16.95. Overall the Blue Devils finished 2nd behind Bucknell, with 18 points, in this, the final event of the season.
Track & Field
At the ECAC Championship at R.P.I. on the 17th, Patrick Wortner (Dobbs Ferry '10) finished 8th in the men's 10,000 meter race, with a clocking of 32:31.82, with his Geneseo team finishing 19th of 61 schools, with 16 points.
