Phelps Medical Associates-Gastroenterology Achieves Re-Accreditation

Phelps Medical Associates-Gastroenterology, a practice of Phelps Memorial Hospital Center’s multi-specialty medical group, has achieved re-accreditation by the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care (AAAHC). The accreditation, which takes place every three years, involves an independent, external process of evaluation to determine that the practice provides the highest quality of care to its gastroenterology patients according to nationally recognized standards set by the AAAHC. This accreditation distinguishes the practice, located on the hospital campus at 777 North Broadway, from many other outpatient gastroenterology facilities.

Not all ambulatory healthcare organizations seek accreditation, and some that undergo the rigorous on-site survey process are not granted accreditation. Approximately 5,000 ambulatory healthcare organizations across the United States are accredited by AAAHC.

“We believe our patients deserve the best,” stated Mayda Davis, Phelps Medical Associates Practice Administrator. “When our patients see our certificate of accreditation, they know that our facility and procedures have been closely examined by AAAHC, an independent, not-for-profit organization. It means we care enough about our patients to strive for the highest possible level of care.”

Ambulatory healthcare organizations seeking accreditation by AAAHC undergo an extensive self-assessment and on-site survey by AAAHC expert surveyors – physicians, nurses, and administrators who are actively involved in ambulatory healthcare. The survey is consultative and educational, presenting best practices to help an organization to continuously improve its care and services.

“Going through this rigorous process helps us better serve our patients and inspires ongoing efforts to improve the quality of care we provide,” said Davis.
