Possibly Rabid Coyote Attacks 2 People, Dogs In Hastings

HASTINGS-ON-HUDSON, NY — Police in Hastings-on-Hudson have issued a warning to the public after a wild coyote, that could be rabid, attacked two people and their dogs Wednesday evening.

“Please stay out of all wooded areas, in particular Hillside Woods,” a posting on the village’s website said.

Police said the injured people were taken to the hospital. One of the dogs was killed.

One of the incidents happened on Kent Avenue; the other, in Hillside Woods.

Until further notice, police said to stay out of wooded areas and keep pets inside if possible or monitor their outside activities.

The state Department of Environmental Conservation is sending officers to the area to help track and capture the animal.
