A construction foreman called Consolidated Edison electric company to report finding an unmarked junction box on his site.
The Dobbs Ferry Fire, Building and Police departments all responded to reports of a possible gas main break in a construction site on Fairlawn Avenue this morning.
Consolidated Edison was also called and sent personnel to the scene, but officials verified the report was a false alarm.

The project foreman--who is overseeing the installation of a new sewer line and curbs on a residential street--said he came across an unmarked junction box from "long ago" and called the electric company "just to be safe."
"It appears to have been defunct for a while," the foreman said. "But the protocol is you call Con Ed when you come across something like this."
