Rivertowns Chefs Prepare Farm Fresh Menus
Despite the Irvington market's slow start to the season, business has started picking up.

The Cookery's chef David DiBari came to Irvington's farmers Wednesday without a plan.
"He walked in and said he was going to wander around and get inspired," Pascale La Draoulec, the market's director, said. She and DiBari have a standing business relationship in which he purchases and features food from her market, and she in turn promotes his weekly "Taste of the Market" menu.
By the time DiBari left, he had gathered enough ingredients to offer a specials for dinner Wednesday and Thursday nights including:

- Sungold tomato salad with red onion, cracked pepper, olio novello and their house mozzarela
- Plum salad with purslane and shaved parmesan
- Roasted cubanelle peppers with provolone picante and lemon-pressed olive oil.
Juniper chefs Jaime Young and Alex Sze could also be spotted in Irvington Wednesday carrying loads of fresh produce, including cubanelle pepper and corn on the cob.
"We go to farmers markets whenever we can," Young said, mentioning that they also frequent Hastings' market on Saturdays. "They offer better produce at lower prices, and we also like to support the local farmers."
The pair were unsure how they would use the peppers, but said they planned to use the corn for a summer ragu.
Despite sending out a letter Wednesday morning reporting a disappointingly low turnout at Irvington's market the first half of the season, La Draoulec expressed hope for the next few months.
"We had an unfortunate streak of wacky weather Wednesdays," she said. "Also, I always figured everyone would know about this market as they do the one in Hastings. Now, we're working harder to get the word out,
Irvington's farmers market is held Wednesdays from 3:30-7:30 p.m. in front of the Main Street School. Parking is free and generally always available.
