Spelling Bee Champs Crowned at Main Street School

IRVINGTON, NY — Main Street School hosted its 10th annual spelling bee championship for fourth- and fifth-graders Jan. 11.

After the pre-bee qualifying round, finalists in both grades were chosen to battle it out on the auditorium stage to claim the title of the school’s best spellers, according to a district spokesman.

After nine rounds, the fourth-grade winning title went to Maggie Ho Tai, while Molly Fuchs was named runner-up. The winner of the fifth-grade spelling bee, which also lasted for nine rounds, was Sahana Harsha, while Sammy Rimland and Florencia Santander-Lopez were named runners-up.

“We applaud all of our finalists in this exciting event,” Principal Joyce Chapnick said. “Congratulations to our winners and runners-up. We are so proud of all of the students who participated. A special thank-you goes to the PTSA for sponsoring the event.”
