Dublin or Dobbs Ferry? Sunday Brunch at Celtic Corner Is a Bargain
Although the turnout is good for NFL football games and St. Patrick's Day at Celtic Corner, its modestly priced Sunday brunches are its biggest attraction.
Walk into Celtic Corner near the bottom of Main Street in Dobbs Ferry and you'll feel more like you've stumbled into a traditional pub in Belfast or Cork—not a bar/restaurant in Westchester, NY.
Celtic Corner opened eleven years ago.
“After we were in business for a short time,” proprietor Rich Doyle said. “We noticed that Dobbs Ferry didn’t have a place for Sunday brunch. So we decided to try one and it was a success from the very first day.”
“Our brunch menu hasn’t changed that much from the original over the years,” Doyle said. “Eggs were the favorite many years ago and are still very popular. We’re not fancy but we can cook simple things extremely well.”
Beginning in April, the traditional Sunday brunch at Celtic Corner will be accompanied every week by a different "reasonably priced" special (typically about $15.95). The “special” new brunch dishes will include roast turkey, roast leg of lamb and ham loin.

The most popular brunch selections with Celtic Corner patrons, Doyle said, are:

Doyle’s own favorite brunch meal is a ribeye steak with eggs over easy.
The menu also includes French toast (listed as Victory toast) and Eggs Florentine (two poached eggs and fresh spinach served with ham, bacon or sausage).
Brunch comes with a choice of two beverages (two Bloody Mary’s, two mimosas, two pints of domestic draft beer such as Budweiser, Coors Light or Yuengling) or soft drinks. Each entrée includes toast, home fries and coffee or tea.
Brunch is served every Sunday from noon to 3 p.m. The regular menu will be available until 10 p.m. Brunch resevations are accepted for four or more people and large groups can be accommodated for brunch with advance reservations.
Doyle attended Fordham Prep and earned varsity letters in football (played halfback) and basketball (as a point guard).
Doyle was the director of operations for a New York City law firm before retiring and subsequently becoming manager and partner at Celtic Corner.
The opening of Celtic Corner in March, 2001 was influenced by the success of J.P. Doyle's, a sports bar and restaurant started in Sleepy Hollow in September of 1999 by Rich's son Brian and partner/proprietor Nicholas Bell. Both Doyle's live in Dobbs Ferry.
Celtic Corner has eight tables and seats 20 at its horseshoe-shape oversized wood bar; it has six high-definition, flat-screen television receivers.
The restaurant/pub is located at 73 Main St. (at Chestnut St.) in Dobbs Ferry. Parking on the street at meters is free on Sundays. 914-693-6566. www.celticcorner.us
