Volunteer Opportunities Of The Week: Pride, New Playground

Each week Patch will be highlighting a volunteer opportunity — or two — in the Hudson Valley. This will be a chance to help your community and an opportunity to give back — in perhaps a way you didn't consider before.

This week we are putting the spotlight on two chances to help out in the community.

First, it's Pride Month and the Rockland County Pride Center is looking for volunteers to work shifts Sunday, June 23 to help set up tables and chairs, assist with various tasks during the event and break down tables and stacking chairs after the event is over.

The shifts are 7 a.m. to 11 a.m., 11 am.to 4 p.m. and 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. You can sign up for any or all and still take part in the festivities.

Next up is an opportunity to help the Abbott House in Irvington to build a new playground. The organization, which serves children of all ages on a daily basis, does not have a safe, ADA-accessible playground.

They need volunteers of all skill levels to help build the playground. There are also roles for volunteers to help distribute food and refreshments, staff the registration table and lead play activities.
