Weekend Shooting Leaves 1 Dead, Suspect In Custody: Yonkers PD

YONKERS, NY — An argument turned deadly this weekend, according to Yonkers police.

On Sunday, at approx. 4 a.m., two men had a disagreement on South Broadway. During the dispute, one of the men pulled out a firearm and struck the victim with the gun, police said.

The man then fired one shot at the victim, striking him in the chest, according to investigators. The victim then walked into the street where he was met by two responding Yonkers police officers who were nearby and heard the gunshot. The officers immediately began rendering aid to the wounded man.

Other responding officers apprehended a suspect who was fleeing from the scene nearby on Ludlow Street, authorities said. While fleeing the scene, the suspect is believed to have discarded his firearm in a nearby front yard, according to investigators. That firearm was recovered nearby.

The victim was taken to a nearby trauma center where he later died.

Detectives from the Yonkers Police Department Major Case Squad, Crime Scene Unit, and Digital Forensics Unit are investigating the fatal shooting.

The victim’s identity is not being released police pending notification to the next of kin. No charges have yet been filed against the suspect.
