Westchester County's First Shake Shack is Its Ninety-Ninth Restaurant Worldwide

Locations in the United States increase to 59 as Shake Shack celebrates its 12th anniversary with opening in Yonkers shopping center.

Shake Shack celebrated its 12th anniversary on July 22, 2016, by opening its 99th restaurant worldwide at Cross County Shopping Center in Yonkers. The new eatery, its 59th in the United States, is its first in Westchester County.

A ribbon-cutting ceremony was conducted by Shake Shack Area Director Alexandra Valdes-Fauli and Liz Pollack, Senior Marketing Manager for the Cross County Shopping Center. Westchester Deputy County Executive Kevin Plunkett, Yonkers Deputy Mayor Susan Gerry and other dignitaries attended.

On the same day, Shake Shack opened its first restaurant in South Korea at Seoul, the country’s capital and largest city.

Founded in 2004 by restaurateur Danny Meyer, the chain starting out as a food cart in 2000 at Manhattan’s Madison Square Park. (The park lies between Fifth and Madison Avenues and runs from 23rd to 26th Streets.) Meyer also founded the famous Union Square Cafe in New York City in 1985.

The menu has all-natural (no hormones or antibiotics) beef burgers on potato buns, cage-free chicken burgers, flat-top hot dogs, frozen custard cups and cones, crinkle-cut fries, and more. Beverages include shakes, soda, lemonade, iced tea, coffee, wine and beer from the Yonkers Brewing Company, Bronx Pale Ale, Broken Bow Brewery, and Southern Tier Brewing Company.

The burger list includes:

  • Shackburger (cheeseburger with lettuce, tomato and ShackSauce)
  • SmokeShack (cheeseburger with smoked bacon, chopped cherry pepper, ShackSauce)
  • ’Shroom Burger (with portobello mushroom, melted muenster and cheddar cheeses, lettuce, tomato and ShackSauce)
  • Shack Stack (cheeseburger and ’Shroom Burger)
  • Hamburger (single or double with optional bacon)

The chain’s signature shake, called the Shack Attack, is topped with chocolate sprinkles and combines chocolate custard, fudge sauce, chocolate truffle cookie dough, and dark chocolate chunks.

Vanilla frozen-custard creations include:

  1. Great White Way (Concrete): with marshmallow sauce and crispy crunches
  2. Exclusive to Yonkers: Cross County Crunch (Concrete): with dark chocolate chunks, chocolate toffee and malt powder

On Sunday through Thursday, the Yonkers’ Shake Shack is open from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. and on Friday and Saturday, its operating hours are 11 a.m. to 11 p.m.

The chain has locations in 15 states, Washington DC, and more than a dozen countries including England, Russia, Japan, Turkey, and the United Arab Emirates.

The Yonkers restaurant has a spacious outdoor patio with picnic tables and approximately 100 seats. It is located at 2090 Mall Walk on the northern side of the property, across from fashion retailer Zara, facing the north parking lot and the Cross County Parkway.
