Westchester Man Arrested In Rape Of 13-Year-Old Who Was Grabbed After Getting Off Bus

YONKERS, NY — A Yonkers man has now been arrested in connection to the sexual assault of a young girl.

On June 23, at approximately 10 p.m., the 13-year-old girl was on a northbound BX9 MTA bus when she was approached by the suspect, according to NYPD Crime Stoppers.

When the victim and suspect, now identified as 36-year-old Abundio Hernandez Cantu, of Yonkers, got off the bus at Broadway and West 261 Street, in the Bronx, he grabbed the victim and dragged her into a wooded area inside Van Cortlandt Park, according to NYPD. Cantu then sexually assaulted the victim and fled on foot.

On Monday, Hernandez Cantu was arrested, and is now facing a charge of rape, according to the NYPD.
