Why i'm a Chiropractor

Today I thought i'd answer a question that I get asked a lot. Whether its from a patient in the office, or someone new I meet that finds out what I do for a living i'm constantly hearing the same question: Why did you become a Chiropractor?

I LOVE it when people ask me this question, because i get to tell them the driving force behind my career and it takes me back and helps me remember WHY I'm on this awesome path in my life.

I've known that I wanted to be a Chiropractor since middle school. I know, no one knows what they want to be in HIGHSCHOOL let alone middle school, but i did.

In middle school I started getting headaches, dibilitating headaches, that brought me to my knees, made me sick to my stomach, and kept me isolated in my room in the complete dark for days on end. I later found out through a series of doctors and tests, that what I was experiencing was no headache, it was a migraine. Because of the migraines I missed a lot of school, missed out on activites with my friends and was not exactly a happy person. Test after test, medication after medication, nothing was working for an extended period of time.

One day, at a church health fair I was introduced to a South Buffalo Chiropractor Dr. Keith Hosmer. My mother told him all about my headaches and he was interested in trying to help me. We made an appointment that day. Being adjusted by Dr. Hosmer the first time was an amazing experience that changed my life forever. Not only did my headache go away after my adjusment but my WHOLE body felt relieved and free. I couldnt believe after all of the medication I had tried, that something like a simple adjustment could relieve my pain. Returning consistantly not only relieved my headaches, but reduced severity and frequency over time.

I knew right away that this was what I wanted to do. I wanted to be able to help people who feel like there is no relief, just the way Dr. Hosmer had helped me. Through the many years of being adjusted by him, and asking a million queestions I learned so much about chiropractic. He encouraged me to follow through and apply to chiropractic schools when I was in highschool, even buying me a copy of Steadman's medical dictionary as a graduation gift.

So, here I am today, a New York State licenced Chiropractor...headache free :)

Dr. Caitlin
