Brendan Wortner is finishing off his senior track season as both a county and sectional champion. He won the Westchester County Championships 3K steeplechase in 9:45:28 on May 19 and the Section 1 Class C 3200 meter race in 9:39:20 on May 23. He also recently broke the 31-year-old Dobbs Ferry school record in the 3200 meters at the Somers Lions Club Invitational on May 4. The old record, set in 1981 by Aaron Lessing, was 9:30.7.
Brendan won the 3200 meters at the Somers meet in 9:27.3.

Brendan's season is not over. He and Sarah King will be competing for a spot to compete in the NY state championships steeplechase races at the Section 1 statequalifier meet this Friday, June 1. Brendan has met the state qualifying time and is the top seed in this event.

You could say that it's all in the family, for brothers Andrew and Greg Pezzuto of Hastings-on-Hudson, as Andrew (Hastings '07) and Greg (Hastings '10) both competed at NCAA baseball championships this week, with Andrew at Appleton, Wisconsin and Greg at Cary, North Carolina.
Appleton, on the 25th, the Red Dragons of Cortland State, opened the NCAA Division III Baseball Championship The other seven teams competing were Kean of New Jersey, Webster of Missouri, Wheaton of Massachusetts, St.Thomas of Minnesota, Christopher Newport of Virginia, Marietta of Ohio, and Whitworth of the State of Washington.
Cortland opened against the 37-10 Kean Cougars, a squad comprised one hundred percent by players from the Garden State, and 39-7-1 Cortland, had all but one player from the Empire State. In the 10-5 win on the 25th, with designated hitter Andrew batted 1-4, scored 2 runs, walked twice, and fanned once.
In the opening frame, he scored following his drawing a pass, and then he slammed an r.b.i. double in the 2nd inning, followed by a 2nd run in the 4th.
Greg, left fielder for the Second Division Southern New Hampshire Penmen, opened the Division II playoffs on the 26th. The other teams in the tourney included Minnesota State-Mantako, West Chester of Pennsylvania, Chico State of California, Catawba and Indianapolis of Indian, St. Mary's of Texas and South.
In the opener on the 26th, they faced the 48-10 Minnesota State-Mankato Mavericks at Cary, N.C., and won a 3-2 narrow victory, as Pezzuto batted 1-4, scored a run and walked once in the victory.
