Wrong-Way Driver Causes Fatal Crash on the Sprain Brook Parkway

The accident happened around 4 a.m.

Updated at 9:12 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 27, 2015: New York State Department of Transportation officials said the southbound right lane of the Sprain Brook Parkway would be closed until about 11 a.m. while authorities investigated the crash.

Delays through the area would remain heavy, and travelers are urged to use alternate routes.

Original story: A two-car accident on the Sprain Brook Parkway near Route 100B has left one dead, according to news reports.

The cause was a wrong-way driver, according to the New York State Department of Transportation.

The accident closed the parkway at the Heatherdell Road Overpass in Greenburgh at 4 a.m.

Just before 7 a.m., one lane southbound was open for traffic; New York State Police reported a 2-mile back-up.

Traffic in the area is still snarled.
