Yonkers Man Accused of Stealing More Than 500 Pounds of Copper Wire

State Police pulled him over for a traffic violation.

GREENBURGH, NY — A Yonkers man was arrested Jan. 14 for possessing more than 500 pounds of stolen copper cable wire.

State Police said Nicholas Mpounas, 67, was charged with fourth-degree criminal possession of stolen property, a felony.

Mpounas was pulled over for a traffic violation on the Sprain Brook Parkway in the Town of Greenburgh, and police said they found the copper cable wire.

The wire was owned by Con Edison and the Yonkers resident did not have permission to have it, police said.

Mpounas was released with an appearance ticket to return to the Town of Greenburgh Court Jan. 27.
