• New York's Excelsior Power program to use $30 million in tax dollars to offer smart thermostat bill credits to qualifying utility customers (whec.com) — Rochester-area RG&E and NYSEG customers could soon get $25 monthly bill credits for a year by installing a Wi‑Fi smart thermostat and allowing limited remote adjustments during peak demand. The new statewide Excelsior Power program, funded with $30 million in tax dollars, builds on existing local thermostat incentives but only applies to new participants, with a unified sign-up system expected by year's end.
• East Rochester Gananda football looks to build off back-to-back successful seasons (whec.com) — East Rochester and Gananda's combined Bombers football team is gearing up for another strong season after a Section V title and semifinal run, with key seniors returning on offense. Players from Monroe and Wayne counties say the co-op program has built a tight-knit family, and they'll open at home Sept. 4 against Le Roy-Caledonia-Mumford.
• Mary Lupien reflects on leading through a turbulent era (democratandchronicle.com) — Rochester's East District Councilmember Mary Lupien says she won't run again in 2027 but will keep serving through the end of her term. She highlights work on the city's Person in Crisis Team, alternative mental-health responses, tenant protections, and anti-poverty efforts, and stresses that her community advocacy will continue beyond elected office.
