Today's riddle: What do you get when you cross an angry cow with an angry sheep? 🤔 (Answer below!)
1. ROC The Riverway: Groundbreaking for Genesee Crossroads Park in Rochester (cityofrochester.gov) — Genesee Crossroads Park in downtown Rochester is getting an $8.2 million overhaul to improve river views, accessibility, and public event space along the Genesee River. Backed by state and city funding through ROC the Riverway, the project will upgrade connections to the Sister Cities Bridge, Riverway Trail, and nearby streets, aiming to create a more vibrant, welcoming waterfront for residents.
2. News10NBC Investigates: Three months after a News10 exposed them, Monroe County votes to tear down a row of abandoned homes it owns (whec.com) — Monroe County lawmakers have unanimously voted to demolish a row of abandoned homes it owns on Beahan Road in Rochester, near Frederick Douglass Airport, after a News10NBC investigation spotlighted the properties. Neighbors say the long-vacant houses attracted squatters and dragged down nearby property values, and demolitions are scheduled for late this year and early next year.
3. Report: Man charged with stolen gun, drug charges after running away from police Saturday (whec.com) — Rochester police say a 23-year-old man ran from officers near North Clinton Avenue early Saturday, tossing a bag that allegedly held a stolen handgun and suspected cocaine and fentanyl. He was arrested on Hoeltzer Street, taken to Monroe County Jail, arraigned in Rochester City Court, and released, facing multiple weapon, drug, and stolen property charges.
4. Rochester small businesses adapt to rising costs with strategic planning (rbj.net) — Rochester-area small business owners are being urged to confront rising costs with more strategic financial planning, marketing, and legal support. Local bankers, accountants, attorneys, and PR experts share practical tips on cash flow, pricing, storytelling, and compliance, emphasizing that Rochester's strong tech and manufacturing ecosystem still offers growth opportunities for entrepreneurs who plan ahead and lean on trusted advisors.
5. New TSA program allowing airport visitors past security checkpoint could come to Rochester (rochesterfirst.com) — Rochester travelers may eventually see a new TSA pilot program that lets approved visitors without tickets go through security to meet loved ones at the gate. The Gateside by TSA PreCheck program isn't at Frederick Douglass Greater Rochester International Airport yet, but airport director Andy Moore is optimistic, stressing that visitors would still undergo full vetting and follow standard security rules.
