Wegmans To Spend $110M To Modernize Supply Chain (theshelbyreport.com) — Wegmans is planning a major supply chain upgrade that includes building a new state-of-the-art refrigerated facility in Rochester and moving its return center operations into a modernized building in the city. While the Winton Road general merchandise facility will be consolidated to Pennsylvania in 2027, the company says no layoffs are planned and emphasizes long-term opportunities for Rochester-based employees.
2. Man killed in shooting on Garson Avenue in Rochester (democratandchronicle.com) — A 40-year-old man was fatally shot Friday night on the 400 block of Garson Avenue in Rochester, and police have not yet identified him or made any arrests. Investigators are probing whether it's connected to another nearby shooting minutes earlier and are urging anyone with information or video to contact 911, Major Crimes, or Crime Stoppers.
3. University of Rochester receives NSF funding for final design of proposed powerful laser facility (newyorkconstructionreport.com) — The University of Rochester has secured up to $13.7 million from the National Science Foundation to complete final design work for the proposed NSF OPAL laser facility at its Laboratory for Laser Energetics. If built, the world-leading laser system could boost Rochester's optics industry, attract high-level research talent, and create advanced training opportunities across the Finger Lakes region.
4. Rochester firefighter meets cancer survivor who received his stem cells (13wham.com) — A Rochester firefighter who once joined the marrow donor registry on a whim ended up saving the life of a Tennessee woman with lymphoma and recently met her for the first time in Chicago. Their reunion, nearly two years after his stem cell donation, aims to inspire more Rochester residents to consider joining the donor registry.
5. Rochester semi driver crashes, leads to 3-car crash in Onondaga County on I-90 (whec.com) — A 38-year-old Rochester truck driver was involved in a jackknife crash on I-90 in Onondaga County that pushed a concrete barrier into oncoming traffic, triggering a three-car chain reaction. Two people, including the Rochester driver, suffered minor injuries, and state police say speeding may have been a factor as the driver now faces traffic tickets and a future court date.
