Thurman Thomas joins Rochester Heroes Ball to honor cancer advocates (rochesterfirst.com) — Rochester residents just saw local cancer advocates celebrated at the annual Heroes Ball, where all funds raised stay in the community through Gilda's Club Rochester. With Hall of Famer Thurman Thomas headlining, the gala highlighted support services, early detection awareness, and the people working daily to help local patients and families facing cancer.
3. Two new African penguins join Seneca Park Zoo colony (13wham.com) — Rochester's Seneca Park Zoo just welcomed two new female African penguins, Bay and Coriander, bringing the colony to 28 birds for visitors to enjoy. Arriving in August and now on exhibit, they help balance the colony's social dynamics, while the zoo also announced a $5,000 grant to support conservation work for endangered African penguin chicks in the wild.
4. Couple turns sudden loss of twin babies into purpose with Webster project (rochesterfirst.com) — In nearby Webster, a couple is turning the loss of their twin boys into a lasting gift for families across the Rochester area by building a new basketball court and playgrounds at Schantz Park. Through The Knox and Nash Foundation, they're also creating a support network for local parents facing pregnancy and infant loss, emphasizing that no one has to grieve alone.
5. Report: Rochester man arrested by deputies after robbery and assault at Henrietta Dollar Tree (whec.com) — A Rochester man was arrested after deputies say he robbed a Dollar Tree on East Henrietta Road, assaulted an employee, and fled by car before being tracked down in Brighton. Monroe County deputies report the victim suffered minor injuries, and the suspect now faces multiple robbery, assault, larceny, and mischief charges with bail set at the county jail.
