50 Firefighters Called To Scene Of Early Morning House Fire In Uniondale, NCFM Says
The Nassau County Fire Marshal says there were about 50 firefighters on-scene to extinguish a Uniondale house fire early Tuesday morning.
UNIONDALE, NY — Six people are out of their homes Tuesday after an early morning house fire drew the response of 50 firefighters from seven fire departments, the Nassau County Fire Marshal said.
According to fire officials, the fire was called in at 1:56 a.m. with Uniondale Fire Department first on the scene at a Lenox Avenue home.
With mutual aid from East Meadow, Freeport, Hempstead, North Bellmore, Roosevelt and South Hempstead, the fire was extinguished in about one hour, fire officials said. Complicating the response effort, the fire marshal's office said, was the presence of "heavy clutter conditions" in the home and an absence of smoke detectors.
