Acclaimed Historian With Long Island Roots Gets School Honor
Doris Kearns Goodwin, who grew up in Rockville Centre, is being praised by Long Island University's Roosevelt School.

BROOKVILLE, NY — Famed historian Doris Kearns Goodwin, who grew up in Rockville Centre, will be honored this weekend by Long Island University's Roosevelt School.
The school and the Society of Presidential Descendants will fete Goodwin at their inaugural gala on June 11.
The Pulitzer Prize winner and New York Times best-selling author will be recognized for her career achievements.

After being born in Brooklyn, Goodwin spent her formative years in Rockville Centre, where she graduated from South Side High School.
The event features panel discussions called "Living in the White House," where descendants' ancestors will reflect on the leadership.

A symposium "What You Don’t Know About Theodore Roosevelt" about the legacy of the 26th president will be led by his great-grandson Tweed Roosevelt.
Goodwin executive produced a recent History Channel documentary about Roosevelt.
"The gala will be a unique opportunity for participants to hear personal stories direct from family members about their presidential ancestors," Tweed Roosevelt said. "We are proud to honor Doris Kearns Goodwin and bring together such renowned leaders to educate and encourage students to shape the future of our country."
