ADULT AND STUDENT PARTICIPATION REQUESTED FOR COMMUNITY NEEDS ASSESSMENT

Participate in a Community Assessment on Underage Drinking and other Drug Use

The RVC Youth Council and the RVC UFSD Drug, Alcohol & Violence Task Force are asking for student and parent assistance in conducting a community needs assessment on teen alcohol and drug use. All information is strictly confidential; there will be no identifying information for any of the projects.

FOR PARENTS

RVC parents are invited to participate in a focus group to identify and address local problems relating to Alcohol, Tobacco and Other Drugs. They are being held on Tuesday, November 11 at 7:00 pm and Thursday, November 20th at 7:30 pm in the lower level of the RVC Recreation Center. It will last no longer than an hour and a half and is being conducted by the “Long Beach Coalition to Prevent Underage Drinking.” To participate, email Cindy Casson at cscasson@lbcoalition.org.

Parents are also invited to take a brief, less than 6-minute on-line survey at
http://www.surveygizmo.com/s3/1842699/Rockville-Centre-Community-Survey or email the above address for the direct link.

FOR HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS

There will also be several focus groups for high school age youth and an opportunity for teens to join other teens over the next month in preparing an environmental scan of the RVC area. This will entail walking around town with keen eyes and a camera or cell phone looking for conditions that make underage or excessive substance use easier. It is guaranteed to be an awesome experience.
