After Arctic Snap, PSEG LI Has Tips To Stay Warm, Save Money
The utility company has some suggestions to reduce costs on the electric bill this winter.

UNIONDALE, NY — While the temperatures are rebounding after the frigid Christmas weekend, PSEG Long Island is using the respite to remind customers how to stay warm while saving money.
The first tip from the utility company is to lower the thermostat by just one degree. Dropping it two degrees during the day and between five and 10 degrees reduce even more costs on the energy bill.
Installing a programmable thermostat that Energy Star estimates could save a household up to $180 per year.

Replace incandescent light bulbs with LED bulbs. According to the U.S. Department of Energy, LED bulbs use up to 90 percent less energy than traditional bulbs.
Another simple solution to keep cold air out is to seal windows and doorframes. PSEG Long Island says weather stripping or caulk can reduce the need for raising the heat.

Ceiling fans can helpful in the winter. By setting the fan to rotate clockwise on low, cool air pulls toward the ceiling, pushing warm air down into the room.
