Amazon Delivers First Supermarket Experience On Long Island

OCEANSIDE, NY — The first Amazon Fresh supermarket is coming to New York in Oceanside.

The store will feature Amazon's Just Walk Out technology, allowing customers to skip the checkout line. Items are automatically detected when they are removed from shelves and placed in a virtual cart. Customers receive receipts and are charged to their Amazon accounts.

Amazon is hiring hundreds of part- and full-time employees for the Oceanside location. Wages will start between $16.45 and $18.55 per hour depending on role type, according to Amazon.

New employees will also receive benefits packages that start on day one, along with opportunities for career growth.

"I’m excited to welcome hundreds of new individuals to our Amazon Fresh team as we get the store ready for customers," said Charlie Chacón, store manager of the Amazon Fresh location in Oceanside.

Amazon is planning a virtual hiring event on May 26th from 10-11 a.m. and 3-4 p.m.

"We’ve always been at the forefront of business and economic development, and we are proud Oceanside is the site of Amazon Fresh’s first location in New York State," Hempstead Town Supervisor Don Clavin said in a statement. "This new store will be a great opportunity for creating jobs and boosting our local economy, and we wish Amazon the best of luck here in America’s largest township."
