ROCKVILLE CENTRE, NY — Anti-Semitic flyers have been spotted throughout Rockville Centre. At a news conference on Friday, Mayor Francis Murray said, "Hate has no home in Rockville Centre."
The American Jewish Committee said the leaflets were produced by a far-right group called Goyim Defense League.
"The Jewish community on Long Island will not be intimidated by these vile flyers left by the so-called Goyim Defense League. Hate will never win here," Eric Post, director of the American Jewish Committee Long Island regional office, said in a statement. "We appreciate the efforts of Rockville Centre leaders and law enforcement for taking this incident seriously. Antisemitism is not just something that affects Jews. It affects all of us."
Murray said he was "infuriated" by the flyers infiltrating the village. The Rockville Centre police are investigating the flyer distribution.
Murray said patrols will be increased, although there are no specific threats. He asked the public to provide any help about who is connected to the leaflets.
Hempstead Town Supervisor Don Clavin said they won't tolerate hate in the form of flyers placed at residents' front doors.
"This is unacceptable," Clavin said. "We are united in our outrage."
