OCEANSIDE, NY — Wednesday was National Nurses’ Day, which Oceanside hospital Mount Sinai South Nassau celebrated with a kickoff breakfast in the hospital conference center that also provided the occasion to present several MSSN registered nurses with awards for their service.
“Nursing is a great profession, it is a great career, and it is something that you can touch so many lives in a single moment [by doing],” MSSN Vice President of Patient Care Services and Interim Chief Nursing Officer Margaret Pfeiffer said.
The celebration of RNs around the world is the kickoff to Nurses’ Week, a weeklong celebration wrapping up May 12, the birth date of Florence Nightingale. As for the Mount Sinai RNs, Susan Ludwikowski and Jacquelyn Rosen received lifetime achievement awards, Stacy Chojnacki won the Daisy Leader Award, Ivan Taglorin won the Transformational Nurse of Excellence award, Emily Leboff won the Nursing Leadership Award, and Erica Valenski was nominated for the Nassau-Suffolk Hospital Council’s Nurse of Excellence award.
In her remarks, Mount Sinai Health System’s Chief Nurse Executive and Senior Vice President of Cardiac Services Beth Oliver highlighted the nurses’ “commitment, passion and expertise” that she said formed the foundation of Mount Sinai South Nassau’s care
In his remarks, Mount Sinai South Nassau President Adhi Sharma thanked the nurses for their efforts.
"Thank you for answering the call to the mission of medicine," Sharma said. "Thank you for choosing Mount Sinai South Nassau to practice your profession. And thank you for all that you do for our patients, our communities, and for each other."
