‘Our Story, Unplugged’ Brings West Hempstead School District Together

WEST HEMPSTEAD, NY — The West Hempstead School District hosted "Our Story, Unplugged" Wednesday, offering a community day to bring students and their families together before the dawn of a new school year.

The community day, district officials said, "offered families an opportunity to reconnect, enjoy time together and build excitement for the school year ahead."

To do all of that, the district set up several interactive "stations" for students and family members to take part in activities, including word literacy games, relay races, charades and sentence scrambles.

Also on offer from the district was a "community story wall," where attendees could add lines and words to a collective story, and a "Tell Us Your Story" station wherein guests were invited to write, record or photograph a favorite memory of theirs.

"Held outdoors, continuing a tradition of summer community gatherings, 'Our Story, Unplugged' provided a relaxed and welcoming setting for families to spend time together before the halls and classrooms filled once again for the new school year," the district said. "More than an afternoon of games and activities, the event celebrated the connections that make West Hempstead a strong and caring school community. From shared stories and laughter to music, creativity and play, 'Our Story, Unplugged' gave the RamFam one more opportunity to come together before beginning a new chapter."

The district also offered attendees at the community day a special treat, dubbed the "Sweetest Part of the Story": Ice cream and snacks, all served up with literary-inspired puns.
