Brooklyn Man Arrested After Elder Scam In Baldwin: PD

BALDWIN, NY — A Brooklyn man was arrested after an elder scam in Baldwin, police said.

A 68-year-old man received a message on his computer that said it had been compromised and to call a number, Nassau County police said. When he called the number, someone told him he needed to withdraw his funds from the bank, and so he complied and withdrew $20,000, police said.

Police said after the man withdrew the money, he realized he was being scammed and called the police.

Upon investigation, police arrested 50-year-old Biaodi Jiang, who was then charged with third-degree attempted grand larceny, police said. Jiang will be arraigned on Sep. 22 at First District Court in Hempstead, police said.

The NCPD is reminding the community to stay alert for potential scams or fraud and to contact the Nassau County Fraud and Forgery Section at 516-573-2815 or call 911 if they have come across one. Police said all callers will remain anonymous.
