Arrest Made in Fatal Baldwin Shooting

A Baldwin man has been charged in a fatal shooting that occurred outside of his home early Saturday, police said.

Nathan Barnwell, 45, is charged with first degree manslaughter, two counts of second degree criminal possession of a weapon and tampering with physical evidence.

According to police, First Precinct officers responded to a Woodoak Drive home for a shots fired call and discovered a man with a single gunshot wound at about 12:50 a.m. Sunday.

The man who was shot, 39-year-old Winfield Gillespie, of Pennsylvania, died from his injuries at the hospital.

Police have not said what may have triggered the shooting.

Barnwell, of 940 Woodoak Drive, will be arraigned at First District Court in Hempstead on Tuesday.
