Assemblyman Curran Fights to Protect Against Gang Violence
Community, gang violence

“With the recent wave of gang violence sweeping across Long Island, including the rise of MS-13, and the continuing epidemic that plagues many areas of our state, it is time for the state Legislature to take serious action to combat it. Today, the state Senate passed a comprehensive measure (S.2410) that will curtail gang-related crime by enforcing harsher penalties, while also attacking the root of the issue by creating educational programming in our schools. This will combat gang recruitment and protect the innocence of children who are being lured into gang life, thus limiting the expansion of gangs that poison our communities. I support legislation in the Assembly (A.5477) to do the same, and I am asking my colleagues on both sides of the aisle to come together in a bi-partisan manner to pass this measure to protect all of our children and communities regardless of race, ethnicity, or geographic location. This is no time for partisan squabbling – lives are at stake.”
