Recently, Assemblyman Brian Curran (Lynbrook-21st A.D.) served as a guest bartender along with Sen. Todd Kaminsky and Lynbrook Mayor William Hendricks at an event to raise money to fight breast cancer. All proceeds from the event were donated to Hewlett House and the Long Island Breast Cancer Action Coalition. More than $2,000 was raised that night. Hewlett House Executive Director Geri Barish was honored at the event.
“This event was a fun way to raise funds and awareness for a very serious issue,” said Curran. “Sadly, breast cancer has likely affected a friend or loved one of almost all of us. This event was just one way for us to help fight back. In addition to helping raise funds to fight this disease, I have been outspoken in my desire to require health insurance providers to cover both mammograms and ultrasounds as necessary early detection procedures, and I sponsor legislation to make that happen. We must continue to pour our resources into research and programs for those battling breast cancer.”
