Assemblyman Curran Legislation Signed Into Law

Highway renamed to honor NYPD Det. Steven McDonald

Today, legislation (A.8378-A) sponsored by Assemblyman Brian Curran (Lynbrook-21st A.D.) was signed into law by Gov. Andrew Cuomo to rename a section of the Southern State Parkway between the interchange of Belt Parkway and the Cross Island Parkway, and Exit 22, in honor of fallen NYPD Det. Steven McDonald. That portion of highway will now be known as the Det. Steven McDonald Memorial Highway.

“I am proud to honor Det. Steven McDonald and it was a privilege to sponsor this legislation,” said Curran. “Today it becomes official. The renaming of this highway honors the life, service, sacrifice and family of Det. McDonald. Local residents will be reminded of his service every day when they drive this stretch of highway bearing his name. We are proud of Det. McDonald and we thank his family for their sacrifice.”

Assemblyman Curran worked in conjunction with Senate Majority Leader John Flanagan, who carried the bill in the state Senate, and Sen. Todd Kaminsky, who co-sponsored the bill. All three worked together tirelessly to ensure this measure was signed into law.
