Assemblyman Curran Questions Cuomo's Pay-for-Play Tactics

Healthcare, Ethics, Cuomo

“A recent report out of Albany is a scary, but not unforeseen scenario for New York state taxpayers. A healthcare company – Crystal Run Health Plan – was allowed by the state to drastically increase its premiums by 80.5 percent for individual plans and 58.5 percent for small group plans. While the sizeable increase is alarming in and of itself, what is more disturbing is that the group has donated more than $400,000 to Gov. Cuomo’s campaigns.

“At a time when the issuance of state contracts has been linked to rumors of bid rigging and subsequent investigations, this is further evidence that there is a great deal of corruption in the governor’s office and that taxpayer dollars are being abused. The worst part is that New Yorkers are now being hit from multiple sides. Residents are overtaxed while those funds are being given out for the governor’s pet projects, and now health insurance rates are going through the roof to please Cuomo donors. This is unacceptable. There is currently legislation in both the Assembly and state Senate to provide greater oversight in these matters, and we must pass them immediately to protect taxpayers.”
