Assemblywoman Wants 'Resignation' After Lt. Governor Corruption Arrest

ROCKVILLE CENTRE, NY — Democratic Lieutenant Governor Brian Benjamin was arrested and indicted on Tuesday in connection to a scheme for campaign contributions in exchange for a state grant, CNN reported.

The fallout reached Long Island as Assemblywoman Judy Griffin (D-Rockville Centre) issued a statement calling for Benjamin to resign.

"It is paramount that the residents of New York state need to trust in the protection, transparency and honesty of our government," she wrote.

Griffin said there is "no tolerance for corruption," regardless of the political party.

"When the public's trust is broken -- as I believe it has been here -- an elected official must step aside for the good of the public," Griffin said.

She wants Benjanim to resign so New York can "move forward."
