Long Island Student Stabbed To Death At University Of Buffalo: Police

BALDWIN, NY — A Baldwin student was stabbed to death at the University of Buffalo, police said.

Tyler Lewis, 19, was stabbed in the chest Friday night on Campus Road, university police said.

Lewis was a student at a different SUNY school - Buffalo State College.

“To be clear, this does not appear to be a random act of violence, but rather a targeted incident between known individuals," University of Buffalo Police Chief Chris Bartolomei said. "Our officers and investigators are working around the clock with local law enforcement partners to bring the individuals involved to justice."

Police said they're seeking a person of interest in the case, identified as a man between 19 and 22 years old.

"I want to reassure our campus community that University Police believe there is no residual danger to campus from this incident," University of Buffalo School President Satish Tripathi said.

Despite that, university police are patrolling the campus as a precaution.

Buffalo State President Katherine Conway-Turner said the victim was a sophomore majoring in pre-business administration, Newsday reported.

Lewis, who attended Valley Stream Christian Academy, earned The Excelsior Scholarship and chose to attend Buffalo State, Newsday said.
