Long Island Swim School

Long Island Swim School is the teaching arm of the nationally ranked Long Island Aquatic Club. Our Learn to Swim programs create strong, safe, and confident swimmers for life. With locations in Garden City and Syosset we train over 2,000 children each week at every swim level from Beginner to Olympian. Long Island Swim School offers swim lessons for children ages 2 - 14years old. The main emphasis of our programs is to teach children to swim correctly and develop essential water skills in a relaxed environment. Our goal driven and technique oriented approach is the key to your child's success. Through skill based quality teaching our students develop a joy for learning and a passion for swimming. At Long Island Swim School, we teach children to swim the same way the best in the world do. By using age-appropriate, proven techniques children build real skills in kick, pull, body position, and breath control. Our logical, consistent progression turns every fundamental—whether blowing bubbles or learning butterfly timing—into a building block for efficient, confident swimming. Our professional staff are swimmers and coaches with the knowledge to give your child the skills to achieve more than just water safety. We provide the best foundation possible for success. Not every child will dream of Olympic glory, but every child should have the foundation to take them there. OYSTER BAY, NY — After winning the state's Club Hockey Championship, Bethpage High School's Ice Hockey Team was honored by the Town of Oyster Bay. The Eagles overcame a 2-0 deficit in the final five minutes of regulation and went on to win the title in overtime. Town Supervisor presented the team with a citation and signs to get displayed at the school. They finished the season 21-3-1 as the Bethpage squad also won the conference title and the county championship.

Museum of American Armor

This Labor Day Weekend, Saturday, September 5th and Sunday, September 6th between 11:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m., the Museum of American Armor, 1303 Round Swamp Road, Old Bethpage, will present “Tanker Friend &amp; Foes,” operating its collection of Allied armor alongside replica enemy vehicles they would have confronted during World War II.
From the Hellcat tank destroyer that could reach speeds of 50 miles per hour, to the replica Tiger tank whose lethal cannon created deadly havoc for the Allies, the Armor Museum’s collection will be presented for the purpose of paying tribute to those who have defended our freedoms and the sacrifice required to do so.

Donations are requested at the door with suggested amounts: $15 adults; $12 children 5 - 12 (under 5 are free); and $12 seniors (60+), volunteer firefighters, and veterans.

Lynbrook Restorative Therapy & Nursing

A special concert featuring 105-year-old Dominick Critelli, a decorated Army Staff Sergeant, WWII veteran and former teacher (at South Shore High School in Brooklyn), who continues to share his love of music with others through his saxophone performances.



At 105 years young, Dominick is proving that age is no barrier to recovery. After a fall resulted in a femur fracture and surgery, he came to Lynbrook Restorative Therapy and Nursing to begin his rehabilitation journey. A lifelong musician and veteran, Dominick has never stopped playing the saxophone—a passion that continues to bring him joy and serves as a meaningful way to honor the fellow servicemen he stood alongside during World War II. With the support of the dedicated rehabilitation team at Lynbrook Restorative, he is working to regain his strength, mobility, and independence so he can continue doing what he loves. Dominick, a longtime Long Island resident, has always wanted to honor the fallen soldiers who served our country. He regularly plays his saxophone for the enjoyment of residents and veterans at local veterans’ homes and at Lynbrook Restorative Therapy and Nursing. He most recently performed the National Anthem at an Islanders/Rangers game.The special concert will give media an opportunity to meet Critelli, hear him perform and capture the remarkable story of a 105-year-old veteran who continues to honor his fellow servicemen and women through music.

The Jay Heritage Center in Rye, New York will celebrate America at 250 with a toast to Jay Medal honorees Pulitzer Prize-winning author Annette Gordon-Reed, the Carl M. Loeb University Professor at Harvard University and award-winning Lincoln historian Harold Holzer.
The Jay Medal for Service was created in 2012 to recognize individuals who demonstrate a selfless spirit of commitment to and engagement with their community mirroring the multifaceted contributions of John Jay and his descendants. These honorees have demonstrated through their life's work that our shared narratives as a country, complicated as they are, can be better illuminated through the highest caliber of ongoing scholarship and advocacy. Honorees are selected for their excellence in the fields of American history, environmental stewardship, social justice or civic engagement.
Joining the celebration will be Chief Judge of the State of New York and the New York Court of Appeals, Honorable Rowan D. Wilson and historian and philanthropist Elihu Rose who will present the awards at JHC's annual Soirée. Special guests will include David Blight, Frank Cogliano, Joanne Freeman, and Beverly Gage.

The Jay Medal Soirée will be held Saturday, September 19, 2026 at the Jay Estate from 5:30-9:30pm. Cocktails, dinner, award ceremony and dancing. Cocktail Attire.
