Bicyclist In Critical Condition After Being Hit By Car

A cyclist was hit while on Sunrise Highway in Rockville Centre earlier in the day Wednesday, police said. The Rockville Centre Police Department got a call at 12:24 p.m. for a serious accident at the intersection of Sunrise Highway and Long Beach Road. A 32-year-old man was driving a 2003 Ford east on Sunrise Highway when police say he struck a 37-year-old man riding a bicycle that was crossing south on Long Beach Road.

The cyclist suffered head and body trauma and was taken to a local hospital, where he is currently listed in critical condition.

Police said the car was brake- and safety-checked at the scene. The investigation is ongoing.
