Bloods Gang Member Sentenced To 30 Yrs. For Murder, Other Crimes: Feds

Richard Michel had pleaded guilty in December to charges that included murder and kidnapping, the U.S. Attorney's office said.

CENTRAL ISLIP, NY — Richard Michel, known as "G-Light" and "Gangsta Light," a member of the Bloods street gang, was sentenced to 30 years in prison for multiple crimes, including murdering a man, Anthony Richard, in Baldwin Harbor in 2012, U.S. Attorney Eastern District, Breon Peace announced.

Michel, 41, from Brooklyn, was the leader of the Red Lane Gorillas set of the Bloods. His sentencing also was for the attempted murder of a disloyal Bloods gang member in 2016, the US Attorney said.

Michel pleaded guilty to the charges in December along with co-defendant Dylan Cruz.

"For the murder, kidnapping, and assaults of Michel’s victims, the pain to their
loved ones, and the violence Michel brought to our communities, today’s sentence is justice
served," Peace said in a statement. "As a result of the hard work of our prosecutors
and law enforcement partners, Michel’s gang has been dismantled. And, we will not rest until all
violent criminal enterprises on Long Island are eliminated."

Cruz and Michel, together with other gang members and associates located the victim, obtained a
firearm and followed the victim’s vehicle to Baldwin Harbor, the attorney's office said.

Cruz, who was Michel’s top lieutenant, exited the vehicle he was traveling in, walked up to the victim’s car and fired approximately 15 shots into the vehicle at close range, killing Richard and wounding his passenger.
