Books To Go At Stewart Avenue School
The school just unveiled a book vending machine, and students have a chance to take home books for acts of kindness.

Students at Stewart Avenue School in Garden City were excited when the school recently unveiled a new book vending machine during a special school-wide assembly.
Thanks to the support of the Carle Place Stop & Shop and funds raised through the school’s Box Tops for Education effort, the book vending machine will serve a dual purpose: reward students who demonstrate that they are maintaining a positive school climate while also promoting reading throughout the building. Students who are seen performing random acts of kindness will be awarded a token which they can insert into the machine to take home a book of their choice.
Stewart Principal Linda Norton turned the unveiling into a surprise for students. One student from each class was called up on stage in the auditorium to ask a question and possibly guess what the tall, covered object at the end of the room might be. Once the cover was pulled from the book vending machine, children were ecstatic! The goal is for every student to be awarded a token for being an inspired contributor to a culture of kindness, filled with avid readers.
