Cardinal From El Salvador To Visit Long Island Next Week

Cardinal Gregorio Rosa Chavez will visit students and prisoners. Many of his appearances will be streamed live.

Cardinal Gregorio Rosa Chavez, the first bishop from El Salvador to be appointed a cardinal, will be visiting Long Island next week to meet with parishioners across the area.

The will be on Long Island as a guest of the Diocese of Rockville Centre from Aug. 18 through Aug. 20. He will be making many stops — some are ticketed events, and others are open to the public.

Rosa Chavez will be visiting the Catholic Charities Immigration Center in Amityville, as well as making a pastoral visit to the Nassau County Jail in East Meadow.

The cardinal will be holding Masses at Saint John the Baptist High School in West Islip, St. Anne Parish in Brentwood, Our Lady Of Loretto Parish in Hempstead and Kellenberg High School in Uniondale. The Mass at St. Anne Parish, which is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. on Aug. 19, and the Mass at Our Lady of Loretto Parish, which is scheduled for 9 a.m. on Aug. 20, are both open to the public.

For those that wish to view the Masses but cannot attend, they will also be streaming live. The mass at Our Lady of Loretto will air on the Telecare Television Network. All of the other ceremonies and masses will be streamed on the Facebook pages for the Diocese of Rockville Centre, the Long Island Catholic and Fe Fuerza Vida.
