Career Volunteer Firefighter Honored With Lifetime Achievement
Steven Klein rose up the ranks in the Oceanside Fire Department, ultimately becoming chief of department in 1984.
OCEANSIDE, NY — A veteran of the Oceanside Fire Department for decades was given a lifetime achievement award.
Steven Klein was honored by the National Volunteer Fire Council.
Klein started with the Oceanside Fire Department in 1965 and was past president of the Firefighters Association of the State of New York. (FASNY)

After serving Oceanside in various capacities, he was named chief of department in 1984.
"I am honored to have been presented with this award by the National Volunteer Fire Council," Klein said in a statement. "It is an honor to serve the community through the volunteer fire service and truly a humbling experience to help others. The fire service is always looking for volunteers, and I encourage anyone interested in joining their local department to stop by or give them a call to learn more."

He also is a past president of the Fire Chiefs’ Council of Nassau County, The Nassau County Firemen’s Association. Klein served on the Nassau County Fire Commission and is a past chairman of the 2nd Battalion Fire District.
A life-long Oceanside resident, Klein retired from the United States Postal Service.
He held several positions at FASNY, including director and president, as he worked for increased training opportunities and dealing with the COVID-19 pandemic.
