CURRAN: ASSEMBLY DEMOCRATS VOTE AGAINST BRITTANY'S LAW BUDGET AMENDMENT
Press release.
Statement from Assemblyman Brian Curran (Lynbrook-21st A.D.)
“I proudly voted for a budget amendment to the Public Protection budget bill today that sought to pass Brittany’s Law, a bill that would create a registry similar to the Sex Offender Registry, but for Violent Felony Offenders. According to data compiled by the United States Bureau of Justice Statistics, nearly two-thirds of released prisoners are arrested for a new crime within three years. Over 76 percent are arrested again within five years. This study also found that 71.3 percent of violent offenders are arrested for a new crime within five years of release. I find it disgraceful that Assembly Democrats would vote to defeat such an important public safety measure.”
