Assemblyman Brian Curran (Lynbrook-21st AD) and Sen. Michael Venditto (R,C,I-Massapequa) announced today that they will be hosting an overdose prevention forum featuring NARCAN training on Wednesday, March 30 at the Freeport Memorial Library. Curran, who recently released a statewide report on Heroin with his Assembly Republican colleagues, has previously hosted similar forums with Nassau County Executive Ed Mangano and Town of Hempstead Supervisor Anthony J. Santino and said the forum is open to parents, guardians, and the general public.

“These training forums have been incredibly helpful to people in the community,” said Curran. “They are an excellent learning experience for the parents, guardians, families, friends and neighbors of those struggling with substance abuse, and teach how to recognize and what to do in case of an overdose, including how to administer the life-saving, overdose-reversal agent called NARCAN. Drug abuse, specifically heroin, has been increasing on Long Island, especially in our youth and children. By educating and equipping our community with necessary prevention and life-saving skills, we can make our communities a safer place to live.”

“As a member of the bipartisan Joint Senate Task Force on Heroin and Opioid Addiction, I worked very hard last year to deliver over $8.8 million for statewide prevention, treatment and recovery services in the 2015-2016 State Budget. By partnering with our local police agencies, schools and community groups, it helps to raise awareness and bring together children, parents, doctors and other officials to get informed and, hopefully, save lives,” said Senator Michael Venditto (R, C, I- Massapequa).
