CURRAN: TALKS OF CHARGING PASSENGERS FOR PORT AUTHORITY AIRPORT DROP-OFFS OUTRAGEOUS
Press release

Assemblyman Brian Curran (Lynbrook-21st AD) recently called talks by the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey to start charging customers of taxi, Uber and other services for drop-offs at John F. Kennedy International Airport and LaGuardia Airport outrageous. Curran, in a letter to the Port Authority, opposed the prospective fee and called it just another tax that New York should stay away from.
“This is outrageous. It’s just another tax and money grab by the Port Authority. In a state where we already are way overtaxed, this is just another way to nickel-and-dime customers,” said Curran. “Regardless of preference, when passengers travel, they are looking for the least expensive way to do it. Preying on customers just to make extra money is wrong – this will certainly have a trickle-down effect not only for business travel but for families who need to travel as well. The Port Authority sees it as its money going to other services, so naturally, like New York State, one of the highest-taxing states in the nation, the Authority wants a piece of those revenues, too; it’s pathetic.”
News reports suggest that the Port Authority is mulling over the institution of a fee due to a change in passenger preferences that have altered vehicle traffic in front of terminals.
