Deputy Commissioner for Department of Taxation and Finance Admits to Tax Increase for STAR Recipients
Statement

In previous weeks, I have voiced some concerns with the governor’s Executive Budget proposal, including freezing savings for STAR Program participants. Last night, I voted for legislation that will make Nassau County more affordable for our seniors by keeping costs down for Enhanced STAR recipients. That legislation (A.2382-B) passed the Assembly.
Today during a public budget hearing, the Deputy Commissioner of the State Department of Taxation and Finance admitted that the governor’s plan to freeze STAR savings will be a progressive tax increase over the coming years. While we pass legislation to make Nassau County more affordable, the governor is attempting to sneak tax increases into the budget. This is abhorrent and cannot be allowed. I will fight to ensure this measure does not appear in the final budget so that our residents can keep more of their hard-earned money.
