Early Morning Crash Leaves One Driver Dead, One Hospitalized, Police Say

A man died Sunday after his Nissan Sentra crossed over double yellow lines and struck a Hyundai in Hempstead, police say.

HEMPSTEAD, NY — A 40-year-old man was pronounced dead Sunday after his northbound Nissan Sentra crossed over the double yellow lines on Henry Street near Albemarle Avenue and collided with a Hyundai Elantra that was traveling south on Henry Street, police said.

Nassau County police said the crash took place at 5:20 a.m. Sunday, with the 40-year-old man driving the Nissan pulled from the car by the Hempstead Fire Department and taken to the hospital. At the hospital, police said, he was pronounced dead.

As for the 27-year-old woman driving the Hyundai, police said she was also hospitalized with minor injuries.

Police did not report any arrests or charges as a result of the crash, and said that an investigation was ongoing. Neither of the drivers was identified publicly Sunday.
