Expectations:

Despite finishing in eighth place in the league in 2009, the Flyers are the third seed for the second year in a row, behind only reigning champs St. Anthony's (10-1) and Holy Trinity (10-1). The entire defensive line graduated with the class of 2010 forcing the inexperienced line backers to show their talents. While special teams coach John Moran noted the quarterback position is "crucial," Kyle Johnson returning to the field from an injury and a strong defensive line is important to have if the Flyers expect a winning season.

Moran also noted that special teams players are "pretty solid" from field goal range. "We will be able to force turnovers or score points where most other teams would not even attempt a field goal," he said.

Chaminade has two promising kickers on staff this season: First year kicker John Brower and returning player Kevin Donohue were both showing their talents during a scrimmage Saturday against Cardinal Hayes by kicking field goals far past the post and onto Emory Road.

Coach Boyd will be moving away from retired coach Bill Basel's playbook of the spread and passing game he used last year in favor of a veer triple offense pattern.

Coach Boyd says: "I felt like (2009) was a successful year because we had to overcome a tremendous amount of adversity and we played our best football at the end of the year and I hope to do the same thing this year. We have a lot of new faces and a lot of work to do and as long as we work hard to get better every day then we're going to be successful."

Notes: The Flyers just lost three clutch players this year as they committed to collegiate lacrosse, but Moran said the team will just have to recover. "We feel badly about them not playing football," he said. "We're fortunate that we have great depth here so the next guy in line just needs to step up and play." Chaminade lost 15 players to the disabled list last year, with eight Varsity players alone in the first few weeks.

Chaminade plays a tough schedule in 2010, with the first game against sister school Kellenberg on Spetember 11 at home at 1:30 p.m. Mid-October features back-to-back rivalry matchups against Holy Trinity, who Chaminade lost to in the playoffs, on October 9 and archrival St. Anthony's the following week on October 16. The one good thing the Flyers can feel good about is they will have home field advantage for both matches.
