BALDWIN, NY — A lawsuit claims a former Catholic principal was put on leave and lost another job offer in retaliation for defending a racially-bullied Black eighth-grader, Newsday reports.

Timothy Gely, 47, was hired in August 2020 as principal of St. Christopher school in Baldwin.

In the suit, filed this month, the eighth-grader described finding "a slew of handwritten racist and threatening hate notes in her desk." Newsday said.
